JioPhone has been booked by millions already. This bit of information has already been confirmed by Reliance Jio. Although Jio has not confirmed the number of JioPhone units that have been pre-booked, but meanwhile some media reports suggest that JioPhone has been booked by about 3 to 4 million consumers approx. This number still has to be verified by Jio. The buyers have booked the JioPhone by paying Rs 500, which is a part of the Rs 1500 refundable security deposite. So, now that million have booked the JioPhone, the question is when will they get it?
As of now, Jio has not officially confirmed the delivery date for the booked JioPhone. But India Today Tech spoke to a few retailers in the Delhi-NCR area and found that the JioPhone deliveries that were set to start from the first week of September have been delayed by around a week. In other words, it is possible that you may not get that JioPhone you booked before September 10. Also, it is worth noting that the JioPhone will be delivered on the basis of first come-first serve so people who booked it first will get it first.
JioPhone pre-booking started on August 24 but due to heavy demand, Jio paused the pre-booking process. The telecom operator has confirmed that the booking for JioPhone will start again, but didn’t say when. However, after speaking to a few retailers in the Delhi-NCR area India Today Tech has learnt that Jio is expected to start the pre-booking in another 3 to 4 days. The retailers also revealed to India Today Tech that JioPhone deliveries are delayed. The reason behind the delay is said to be the heavy demand.
“Earlier JioPhone was supposed to reach our store around the first week of September. But now there will be some delay and JioPhone will arrive a little late,” says a Reliance Digital store retailer.
These retailers further noted that JioPhone may arrive between September 10 and 15. People who have already booked a JioPhone can check the status of their order by sending a message to 18008908900 via the mobile number used to book the device.
JioPhone pre-booking has been paused for a while, but Jio has ensured to start the booking again. Going by what the offline retailers, JioPhone pre-booking will start in the next 3-4 days probably. Although the retailers seemed to be very sure about the information, Reliance Jio is yet to confirm the same. Reliance Jio has not officially announced any details about reopening of the pre-booking process.
To book JioPhone via online channel, the consumers have two options – Jio.com and MyJio App. While, to book the device offline, consumers can visit their nearest retailer. Note, not all retailers will be booking the JioPhone, there are only a select few and to know which retailers are booking the device, the consumers will have to visit the stores and find out.
To recall, JioPhone is “effectively free”. However, the consumers will have to book the phone by paying Rs 500, which will be adjusted in the refundable security fee of Rs 1,500 that they will have to pay for the phone. This amount, as noted by Jio, will be refundable to consumers if return the phone back to the company within three years from the purchase date. While pre-booking the JioPhone, the consumer will have to pay a Rs 500. Later, at the time of delivery, they will have to pay another Rs 1,000. The interesting bit here is that if you have pre-booked JioPhone and have paid Rs 500 but if you don’t take the delivery of the phone it seems that you will lose Rs 500.
After booking the JioPhone, the buyer gets a message on registered number. The message reads: “Congratulations. Pre-booking of India ka smartphone JioPhone is successful. Payment of Rs 500 received. On availability of JioPhone, you will receive an SMS with store details.” The stores will probably be allotted based on the pincode that the customer has provided while booking the phone.
