n a bid to take on Jio TV, Airtel TV app has been given a major refresh where users can watch live TV channels for free. The company announced the refresh on Thursday, and said that its prepaid and postpaid customers will be able to watch free live TV with a subscription model until June 2018. The move to offer free content till June 2018 is Airtel’s strategy to take on Jio TV which also offers free access to live TV channels.
Talking about the all-new content catalogue, Airtel TV app on Android and iOS platforms will now offer over 300 live TV channels across different categories and languages. Airtel has also announced that the app will come with over 6,000 movies from Hollywood and Bollywood as well as TV shows. For access to movies, Airtel has tied up with content partners like HOOQ, Eros Now, Sony Liv, Dailymotion, and YouTube.
Airtel prepaid and postpaid customers can watch movies and live TV via the Airtel app for free till June 2018.
For watching free live TV, Airtel prepaid and postpaid customers will have to download the Airtel TV app and register using Airtel’s mobile Internet to activate the free subscription. Airtel points that data charges will apply. As an offer, Airtel TV app on Android and iOS will offer free subscription to ErosNow and Hooq content where users can watch up to 5 movies which will be available as a bundle with select data plans.
Some of the Airtel TV app features include multi-device access where one user can use a single login to access content on up to 5 devices; it’s Chromecast-ready, and the app now allows users to filter catalogue by language, genre, and channel.
